Open Up a World of Possibilities with Your Child's Library Card!

We're excited to announce that Giant City School is now part of the Illinois Heartland Library System's SHARE! That means our students will have access to millions of books, audiobooks, television series, CDs, DVDs, and video games from libraries all across Illinois.

K-8 Students will get a library card automatically, and they can learn how to use the system and select materials for themselves. Then, every weekday, their selections will be delivered to GCS! There are no restrictions on what people can request through SHARE, and we want our students to be able to self-select their materials. However, if the library staff has a question about any selections, they'll contact parents before allowing the items to be checked out.

Students in Kindergarten through 8th grade can borrow up to 3 items at a time, but only one of them can be something other than a book (like a DVD, video game, CD, etc.).

Please make sure to return all items borrowed to the GCS library within three weeks, and in good condition. If not, you will be responsible for covering any replacement costs.

Library and MakerSpaces

Each Kindergarten through 5th grade class visits the Media Center for 45 minutes twice each week. Once a week, each class visits for Library class. Library lessons are based on the National School Library Standards which include learning how to find books, research skills, information literacy, growth in literary knowledge, and reading strategies. The second 45 minute time period is for what we call MakerSpaces. Students get to explore math, science, technology, engineering, and the arts in this time period to further the curriculum from their classrooms.
